Sapientia Associates is the husband and wife team of Chris Knol and Sue Gemmell. Established in 2021, and working to their combined strengths in education and training, learning development, business resilience and project management, Sapientia is successfully growing its presence internationally in a range of social development projects, working alongside and with global multi-disciplinary consultancies for foreign governments. Sapientia has worked extensively in the social development fields of tourism, education, recreation and adventure.
Both Sue and Chris, have extensive backgrounds, deep experience and considerable expertise in active and risk recreation, adventure tourism, and the development of learning solutions, training programmes, standards and qualifications. They offer a wide range of services in social development to clients; better helping them solve the challenges of planning, growth, training development, strategic advice and improving project and company capacity and capability.
Social development is about putting people at the center of advancement. Development processes need to benefit people and communities, the way they interact in groups and society, and the systems and processes facilitating such interactions. Social development involves change from a current state to a new way of looking at things.
Sue and Chris are masters of working alongside people to find the best outcomes for them.
Working together suits them well. It provides freedom and flexibility, it’s often fun working together on the same projects and they enjoy being able to say yes to adventures that they wouldn’t have been able to go on when working 9-5s.
Chris very much focuses on business process and resilience, along with data management and analysis as well as project and programme management.
Sue has considerable background in programme management, learning design, competency and capacity training along with a solid back ground in programme management.
Always clear on who does what, together Sue and Chris are an awesome team, with considerable skills, knowledge and experience.

The serpent, (can you see it) wrapped around the trunk of the tree, symbolizes its control and influence over unknown knowledge. It plays the role of a catalyst, leading those who want to know more to eat from the fruit of the tree.

The hills up behind the coast are great for walks.
The Waikanae river runs from the hills to the sea a few stones throws away from our house.
Sapientia's work comes from our studio office, set up alongside the house. Its important to separate work hours from leisure .

The river runs into a wide beach and marsh estuary where birds of all types gather. Swallows, Spoon-bills, Canadian Geese and Terns fly in every Spring from the north and join the many native species of duck, swan and bush birds that live in abundance around us.
Winter sunsets are often stunning.

Sapientia offices are at the home of Sue and Chris at Waikanae Beach in lower North Island of New Zealand. Waikanae Beach is part of the beautiful Kapiti Coast and the region is dominated by a pristine bird sanctuary a few kilometers of the coast called Kapiti Island. The island dominates our horizon and is a constant part of our walks, rides and life.
